Environmental performance is becoming an increasingly important consideration when selecting construction products, with architects and specifiers requiring reliable data to support informed material decisions.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide independently verified information on the environmental impact of a product across defined stages of its lifecycle, helping make environmental data more transparent and easier to assess.

Comparing XPS insulation environmental data

When comparing the environmental performance of XPS insulation, it is important to ensure products are being assessed on a consistent basis.

Key considerations include:

  • Declared unit – ensuring environmental impacts are compared using an equivalent quantity of material.

  • Lifecycle stages – understanding which modules, such as A1–A3, are included within the assessment.

  • Global Warming Potential (GWP) – considering the carbon impact associated with the product.

  • Product performance – taking account of factors such as thermal performance, thickness and compressive strength.

  • Verification – ensuring the environmental information has been independently verified in accordance with recognised standards.

Considering these factors together can help architects and specifiers make more meaningful comparisons between insulation products.

Environmental data for the HEXATHERM® range

Independently verified environmental data is now available across Cellecta's HEXATHERM® XPS insulation range.

The EPD covers the following HEXATHERM® products:

It also covers product thicknesses from 20–160 mm and compressive strengths of 250, 300, 400 and 500 kPa, providing environmental information across a wide range of HEXATHERM applications and specifications.

Supporting informed specification

An EPD does not, by itself, determine whether one construction product is more sustainable than another. Instead, it provides transparent and independently verified environmental information that can be considered alongside thermal performance, structural requirements, application and other project-specific criteria. Access to reliable XPS insulation environmental data can therefore help support more informed material selection. By making verified environmental data available for the HEXATHERM® range, Cellecta is helping architects, specifiers and construction professionals make more informed material selections and support environmental assessment throughout the specification process.
