Educational Case Study

Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge

Project Background

Lucy Cavendish is the fastest growing and most diverse college in Cambridge. The development consists of a refurbishment of most of the college’s buildings into 72 eco-friendly ensuite bedrooms as well as co-accessible and fully accessible rooms for wheelchair users. The student accommodation block is a part three-storey, part four-storey structure arranged in two connecting wings, a café and bar area and informal learning and collaboration spaces have also been provided. The college achieved The David Mackay Award for Engineering and Sustainability, Best New Building over £2m, and The Contractor Award.

Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 20 was specified by R H Partnership Architects as it is the ideal overlay floorboard for acoustic application incorporating underfloor heating applications due to its high thermal conductivity. This enables the system to run more efficiently, saving on running costs and improving reaction times.

SDC was awarded this 305m² contract to construct this refurbishment in Cambridge.
